Two male youth, aged 16 and 12*, escaped from the Children’s Farm Home in Corvallis on the evening of June 6, 2020. The Children’s Farm Home is a secure facility for adolescents owned by Trillium Family Services.
The 16-year old was originally committed to the legal custody of the Oregon Youth Authority (OYA) in Dec. 2016 on misdemeanor charges of Theft 2 and Assault 3; again in January 2019 on two counts of Assault 4, and a felony charge of assaulting a public safety officer; and in March 2020 on a felony charge of Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle. The 12-year-old was detained on charges of Burglary 2, Criminal Mischief 2, Theft 1, Menacing, and Disorderly Conduct 2.
A warrant has been issued, and law enforcement notified. OYA’s primary concern is for the well-being of the youth and will work with the authorities to locate them.
“We work with a high-risk, high-needs population of youth, prone to impulsive behavior,” Chambers said. “Absconding is always a risk in secure facilities. The Children’s Farm Home adheres to mandatory procedures and protocols to minimize that risk. A review will be undertaken to identify whether there are any opportunities to prevent similar incidents in the future.”
*It is OYA’s practice not to name youth under 18 in news releases of this type.
