Peer Mentors Transform Treatment at Oak Creek

A new video created by a youth gives an inside view of substance use treatment at the facility.

When Josefina R. had to come up with a project for one of her classes at Portland State University, she knew right away what she wanted to do: make a video about treatment at her facility.

Josefina was one of a handful of youth at Oak Creek Youth Correctional Facility and the adjacent Young Women’s Transition Program who had earned the title of Certified Recovery Mentors.

Their work in mentoring other youth who are struggling with substance abuse had a big impact on Josefina, and she wanted to share that work with others.

The outcome is a short video documenting substance use treatment at Oak Creek and YWTP, and the impact of the recovery mentors. You can view the finished product below.
